In a recent development, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) has successfully secured $1,000,000 in federal funding for expanding broadband access in Bradford County. The funding, which was included in FY24 Appropriations legislation recently signed into law, will play a vital role in enhancing connectivity in the region.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Progress Authority, involves the development and implementation of a dark fiber open-access network throughout Bradford County. This network is designed to provide reliable broadband services to small businesses and residents in the area. The project is strategically structured around three redundant dark fiber loops, ensuring that they extend within six miles of every resident and business in the county.

Working closely with the Bradford County Commissioners, the planning, design, and construction of the network are already well underway. Currently, over 200 miles of the open access network have been completed, with anchor clients such as the Bradford County Emergency Management System and Guthrie Health Care already benefiting from the improved connectivity.

Expressing his commitment to the project, Congressman Dan Meuser stated, “Expanding reliable broadband for small businesses and residents in Bradford County is crucial for their growth and connectivity. That is why I am happy to have worked in partnership with the Central Bradford County Economic Development Authority and Bradford County Commissioners to secure $1 million in federal funding for the implementation of a dark fiber open-access network throughout the county.”

Bradford County Commissioner Doug McLinko also commended Congressman Meuser, stating, “Congressman Dan Meuser got it done. This will have a huge impact on Bradford County in expanding broadband and helping get access for all its residents. Congressman Meuser is a man of his word.”

The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity and enhance the lives of residents and small businesses in the region by providing them with reliable internet access. Congressman Meuser has affirmed his continued dedication to expanding rural access to broadband across Pennsylvania’s Ninth District, ensuring that more communities benefit from improved connectivity and communication infrastructure.
