WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) announced the allocation of $3.2 million in federal funding for the renovation of the water, sewer, and stormwater systems beneath Susquehanna Avenue in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. The funding, included in the FY24 Appropriations legislation, aims to address the infrastructure challenges faced by the city.

The aging and inadequate infrastructure on Susquehanna Avenue has been a cause for concern due to its susceptibility to flooding and untreated sewage backups. Congressman Meuser emphasized the importance of this funding, stating, "I recognize the urgent need for renovations on Susquehanna Avenue in Sunbury to address flooding and eliminate untreated sewage backups."

The Sunbury City Council expressed their gratitude towards Congressman Meuser for his efforts in securing the funding, acknowledging the significance of the project for the city's future. They stated, "The infrastructure upgrades and economic benefits of this project are vital to Sunbury and its future. Congressman Meuser has been to Sunbury quite often, and we appreciate him supporting our city and its citizens."

The Community Funding Project will focus on alleviating flooding issues and preventing untreated sewage backups that pose risks to the health and safety of Sunbury residents. The deteriorated utilities, narrow width, and lack of pedestrian facilities on Susquehanna Avenue will be addressed through this initiative.

The federal funding will play a crucial role in improving the water, sewer, and stormwater systems beneath the street, which are currently in poor condition due to age and material deterioration. The project aims to mitigate the contamination caused by raw sewage discharge onto streets and residential properties during heavy rain events.

Congressman Meuser's commitment to addressing the infrastructure challenges in Sunbury reflects his dedication to ensuring the well-being of the community. The Susquehanna Avenue Project is set to bring significant improvements to the city's infrastructure, ultimately benefiting the local residents and enhancing the overall quality of life in Sunbury.
